Too much.

I was catching up with Christina’s blog this morning and read that George Carlin died.

WHAT?! George Carlin?! No way. I didn’t hear anything about it, it must be a joke. I scanned the entry looking for the punchline that never came.

Then again, after I watched Meet the Press yesterday, I didn’t turn the television or computer on all day. (What’s a newspaper?) So I did a google search and sure enough: crap!

This, combined with the loss of Tim Russert, is way too much for my brain to process in one week.

I have never cried so much over a stranger’s passing as I have for Tim Russert. I watched his show faithfully every Sunday morning for the last ten years or so and like so many people in America, I trusted him, depended on him and really just “liked” the guy. After the last election when I went on a massive media diet, his show was the one I relied on to get caught up on the week’s events. There was no messing around with Tim Russert, there was no bullshit. What am I going to do now?!

Now, George Carlin? Are you kidding me? This is not just a funny man to me, this guy shapes the way we view American politics. He says the things that nobody else dares to say! He paves the way for everybody else, giving other comedians permission to cross boundaries that need to be crossed. What are we going to do without his voice?

Like Tim Russert, George Carlin had influence in my little universe, so it’s fitting to shed a few more tears this morning. This is just way too much.

Honest-to-goodness, I wish it had been a sick joke, because really, I’m really… blue about George Carlin passing away (no pun intended). That and Tim Russert - good grief. I didn’t know I would be so emotional about his passing, either.

Sorry to be the bearer of the sad news. :S

Iknow, I know...I am just coming out of my deep tear-filled funk over loosing Tim Russert and than this! Just like Tim, George Carlin is an irreplaceable voice that would just make you think a little deeper about the boundaries our society sets and why we set them.

I just want to sit under my little black cloud and cry.
